STAR SCIENTIST

Christine was our Star Scientist this week.  Tuesday she read some of her favorite Shel Silverstein poems with us for her read aloud.

Christine's mother and grandmother came in on Wednesday and shared designs and parts from a cutting machine Christine's grandfather designed and pattened.  The machine cuts out the "weld beam" from inside metal pipes to make them smooth inside.  Check out the pictures below.

Thursday we were fortunate enough to experiment with "Salt-dough", led by Christine and her father.  Each of the kids were able to have their own little piece of salt-dough and they created STEM related scupltures.  Check out the pictures below and the recipe below.  NOTE: The key ingredient (vegetable oil) will make the salt-dough last longer.

STAR SCIENTIST

Brent was our Star Scientist last week before break.  Brent read Spongebob Squarepants to us.  Brent also had his Polaris Razor hauled to school by his mother, father, and papa.  Brent backed the 4-wheel mud monster off of the trailer and described the different parts of it to us.  He and his papa even shared some stories of the adventures they've had driving it.  Brent also made an awesome chemical reation in a bag!  Pop!  Click here to find out how do this at home.

STAR SCIENTIST

Connor was our Star Scientist this week.  He read us the story of how Mickey Mouse and his lovable dog Pluto became friends.  Connor's experiment taught us about the capillary effect.  The capillary effect is the ability of water to travel through narrow spaces without assistance.  The water is even able to travel upward against gravity.  Click here to see a different version of his experiment with directions so you can try at home.  Connor used food coloring in his water and a created a "tye-dye" paper towel.  Connor also shared factual information about the Epcot Center at Disney for engineering item.  He even has a picture of his dad holding the humongous golf ball in his hand!
