TRIP TO THE WETLANDS

On Friday we made a trip to the wetlands accompanied by Mrs. G, Mrs. Worthington (Tyler's mom), and Mrs. Robinson (Abby's mom).  A special thank you to those wonderful ladies.

It was hot!!  But.....we learned a lot and had a great time.  Be sure to ask your environmentalist about water quality testing (acid and base).  Also, be sure to ask him/her about which macro-invertebrate was the coolest!

Enjoy the pictures below.

Serious....
 Not so serious....

Did I mention it was hot out there!!

AJ is multi-tasking....waiting for his shoes to dry and having a moment of zen!

STAR SCIENTIST

This week Jillian was our Star Scientist.  She shared her dad's emergency flash light.  It was complete with a siren and a hand crank generator (batteries not necessary).

Jillian read us Spooky Old Tree.  She said that it is her mother's favorite book!

Jillian and her father showed us how to complete a battery circuit using the acidity of a lemon!

STAR SCIENTIST

Last week Payton was our Star Scientist.  Payton cracked us up the entire week reading from her joke book.  Everyone' favorite was....

A woman took her husband to the doctor, complaining the he kept acting like a car.  The doctor said, "Ah, I see the problem.  Your husband has a gas problem!"

Payton and her mother showed us how to make a magnetic liquid using guar gum.  If you chew it, you'll stick to the refrigerator...just kidding!

Enjoy the pictures below.

STAR SCIENTIST

Tyler was our Star Scientist last week.  He read Dr. Seuss's One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish which we used to sharpen our rhyming skills.

Tyler's mom and dad also brought in his 4-wheeler for his engineering object.  All of the kids got a chance to sit on it and see all of the moving parts.  We learned about how the brakes work too.

Tyler's experiment involved using a battery and a magnet to create a mini spinning motor.  The magnet and battery combine to make a coil into an electromagnet that spins continuously.

Be sure to view the pictures of his week below.
